Grandpa Frank stretched his gray paws in the morning sun. His cabin sat deep in the autumn woods. "Time to explore!" he said, grabbing his walking stick.

Frank loved to run through forests and climb tall hills. He collected pine cones and pretty rocks. But his cabin felt too quiet when he returned each evening.

"Surprise!" Two young wolves jumped from behind the porch. "We're here for the whole week, Grandpa!" Frank's grandcubs, Luna and Max, had come to visit.

"Can we explore with you?" asked Luna. "We want to see everything!" added Max. Frank's tail wagged fast. This week would be different!

Frank grabbed three backpacks from his shed. "First, we need supplies," he said. The cubs helped pack water, snacks, and a mysterious seed packet Frank had saved.

They marched into the forest together. Frank showed them deer tracks in the mud. "Look close," he said. "Every mark tells a story."

Luna discovered a hollow log full of acorns. Max found a feather stuck in tree bark. "You're natural explorers!" Frank said proudly.

By the creek, Frank tried to leap across like old times. His paws slipped on wet stones. Splash! He landed in shallow water, laughing.

"Are you hurt?" the cubs asked, worried. Frank shook water from his fur. "Just wet! Sometimes we need to slow down," he admitted.

They built a bridge from fallen branches instead. Working together took longer but felt better. The cubs cheered when they crossed safely.

At the meadow's edge, Max started to wheeze. "My chest feels tight," he said. Frank recognized the signs - Max needed rest and his breathing medicine.

Frank made a cozy spot under an oak tree. He gave Max water and helped him breathe slowly. "Adventures can wait," Frank said gently.

While Max rested, Frank told stories about this very tree. "Your grandmother and I planted it forty years ago," he said. The cubs listened with wide eyes.

"Can we plant our own memory tree?" Luna asked. Frank remembered the seed packet! "That's exactly what these maple seeds are for," he smiled.

Together they dug a hole near the cabin. Each wolf dropped in a seed. "This tree will grow with your visits," Frank explained.

They patted soil around the seeds and watered them carefully. "When you're grandparents, this tree will be taller than the cabin!" Frank said.

That evening, they sat on the porch watching fireflies. Frank didn't feel restless at all. The cabin buzzed with laughter and stories.

"Tomorrow can we plant more trees?" Max asked. "And make a sign?" added Luna. Frank nodded, his heart full. Some adventures grew slowly.

The best expeditions weren't always the farthest. Sometimes they took root right where love lived. Frank hugged his grandcubs close beneath the stars.
