Mini was the most colourful fly in New York City. She had six tiny hands. She loved to HELP. “Today,” she buzzed, “I will be the BEST helper ever!”
Mini spotted a pretzel cart on Fifth Avenue. The pretzels looked wobbly. So Mini straightened one. Splat! The whole stack tumbled down the street.
“THIS IS A DISASTER!” yelled the pretzel man. Mini covered three of her eyes. “Sorry, sorry, SORRY!” She zoomed away as fast as her wings could buzz.
Mini saw a taxi with a lost balloon tied to it. “I will fix that!” she said. She tugged the string. Boing! Mini flew up, up, UP above Times Square!
“Whoops!” Mini spun like a tiny helicopter. She bumped a hot-dog cart. Crash! Mustard went EVERYWHERE. “THIS IS A BIGGER DISASTER!” yelled the hot-dog man.
Mini landed on a park bench, all six hands on her head. “Maybe,” she said quietly, “I am a bad helper.” A pigeon sat beside her. “Try once more,” it cooed.
Mini spotted a little girl. Her ice cream was falling! Mini zoomed — Whoooosh! — and caught the scoop. She plopped it back. Perfectly. Mostly. A little lopsided.
The ice cream wobbled. It tipped left. It tipped right. Then it landed — SPLAT — right on a grumpy pigeon. The pigeon looked so surprised that everyone burst out laughing.
The pretzel man laughed. The hot-dog man laughed. The little girl laughed so hard she snorted. “Again!” she giggled. “Do it AGAIN, tiny fly!”
Mini did NOT do it again. But she did a little bow. All six hands waved to the cheering crowd. “I helped!” she buzzed proudly. “Sort of.”
That evening, Mini zoomed over the glittering city. The lights blinked like they were winking at her. She smiled her biggest, most colourful fly smile.
