The Three Little Pigs

Story Preview

Once upon a time there were three little pigs. They lived with their mother in a small, cozy house. One day their mother said, "You are grown up now. It is time to build your own homes." The three little pigs hugged her goodbye and went on their way.

The first little pig did not like to work very much. Soon he met a man carrying a bundle of straw. "Please give me some straw," he said. "I will build my house with it."

The man gave him the straw. The little pig quickly built a house of straw. It did not take long at all. "Now I can rest and play," he said happily.

The second little pig met a man carrying sticks. "Please give me some sticks," he said. "I will build my house with them."

The second pig built a house of sticks. It took more time than the straw house, but he finished before the day was over. "This will be good enough," he said proudly.

The third little pig walked farther and met a man with a cart full of bricks. "Please give me some bricks," he said. "I want to build a strong house."

The third pig worked very hard. He laid each brick carefully and built strong walls and a solid roof. It took many days, but at last the brick house was finished.

In the forest nearby lived a big, hungry wolf. One day he saw the straw house and knocked on the door. "Little pig, little pig, let me come in."

"No, no," said the pig. "Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down!" said the wolf. He blew hard, and the straw house fell down.

The first pig ran to his brother's stick house. The wolf followed and knocked. "Little pigs, let me come in!" "No!" they cried.

"Then I'll huff, and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down!" The wolf blew harder. The stick house shook, cracked, and fell down.

The two pigs ran to their brother's brick house. The wolf followed again. He knocked loudly. "Little pigs, let me come in!"

"No, no!" said the three pigs together. The wolf huffed and puffed as hard as he could, but the brick house did not move.

The wolf climbed onto the roof and went down the chimney. The pigs quickly made a fire and put a big pot of water over it. The wolf fell into the hot water and howled.

The wolf ran away and never came back. The three little pigs were safe in their strong brick house. They lived happily ever after.
